L'histoire suit deux jeunes filles japonaises qui n'abandonnent jamais leur quête d'étoile pendant les temps difficiles du début du 20e siècle. Fujiko, qui rêve de devenir peintre, et Chizuru, qui est attirée par le monde du ballet, se rencontrent par hasard à Yokohama. Puis, comme guidées par le destin, elles se retrouvent à Paris et travaillent dur pour poursuivre ensemble leurs rêves.
